The Epoxy Floor Process

The epoxy floor process is a multi-step process that ensures quality in the flooring application. Please take note of the various steps in the epoxy floor process to familiarize you with what to expect.

Epoxy Floor Process: Step 1

Preparing the Floor

The floor preparation in the epoxy floor process may consist of a few different activities, depending on the condition of the floor. If the floor is cracked or contains holes or divots, then it will need to be patched. After patching, floor will need to have a nice diamond grind or shot-blasting. Muriatic acid is not a preferred professional choice. The purpose of this step is to fully ensure that the substrate has a nice porous surface for the epoxy to bond to.

Epoxy Floor Process: Step 2

Apply Epoxy Primer

This step in the epoxy floor process is where the strength of an epoxy floor coating comes into play. The chemical bonding process of the epoxy resin penetrates and adheres to the substrate creating a powerful and durable floor. The epoxy is rolled on, similar to paint. You should expect to catch a draft of the strong epoxy resin smell, but this will dissipate as the epoxy hardens.

Epoxy Floor Process: Step 3

Apply Flakes (optional)

If the epoxy coating that you have chosen to apply, this is the point in the epoxy floor process where flakes will be applied. A second epoxy resin coating will be applied over the first dried coat. While it is still wet, the flakes are distributed throughout the floor giving it a rich texture and bringing the floor to life.

Epoxy Floor Process: Step 4

Apply Epoxy Finisher

This is the last step in the epoxy floor process. After the flakes or coloring have been applied, then a final finishing coat will be applied to the floor to seal in all the goodness. This top coat is chemical resistant and brushes on the final shine. This layer also protects against tire abrasions and impact.
