How We Prepare Your Space For Katy, TX Industrial Epoxy Floor Coating
The first thing we want to do is make sure your floor doesn’t have any imperfections that can interfere with the epoxy. If there are, we can do minor repairs to even out the surface. If there are any dents or cracks, this can cause the epoxy to be uneven. We also want to ensure the surface is as level as possible, so we will grind out rough areas and make them as even as we can.
We also ensure that the floor is clean. We do everything possible to remove any stains, dirt, dust, and debris. This step is incredibly important because things like stains can ruin the finished look of the epoxy.
The epoxy may be stain-resistant, but stains underneath cannot be removed. Therefore, we take extra care and a little extra time to ensure your floors are free of loose dirt and stains.
Next, we will go over your floors with an abrasive material. Smooth surfaces will not allow for the primer coat to adhere very well. Therefore we will use something similar to sandpaper to rough out the surface a bit. Once that is finished, we can move on to the epoxy process.
The Process
As we mentioned previously, we need to lay down a primer coat. This will allow for better adhesion for the epoxy and avoid bubbling. Otherwise, we would have to take extra time to buff out the floors.
We will apply a thin layer of epoxy so it can fully penetrate the concrete. The primer coat will take time, possibly overnight, for it to fully dry.
Once the primer is dry, we can apply the base coat, which will be a thicker layer of epoxy coating. This is also where we can apply the color of your choice for aesthetics. We will apply layers as needed until we reach the desired results.
After we apply the layers, we will broadcast chip flakes, which are just colored paint chips. Chips serve multiple purposes, including traction, aesthetics, and hiding dirt and dust. The epoxy may need several days to fully cure. It is worth the weight because once epoxy hardens, it is extremely tough and durable.
After it is cured, we will apply a protective coating that will make your floors resistant to all kinds of things, such as impact, stains, heat, and chemicals.
